Important Changes Proposed for School Funding

Missisquoi Valley School Community Members,

There are significant changes being discussed in Montpelier (bill H.454) that will impact how our schools in the Missisquoi Valley School District (MVSD) are funded.

The current Senate proposal would likely send more money to our schools. However, the way this new funding plan is set up would mean higher property taxes for our communities – without a public vote.

It's important to know that the formula used to create this funding plan wasn't based on research but seems to have been put together in a haphazard manner.

While our schools may receive more funds under this new system, our towns would see a tax increase. We want you to be aware of these potential changes and will keep you informed as the state legislature works towards a final decision.

While we don’t have the answers or a vote on this legislation, our Senators and Representatives do. If you have questions or suggestions, we recommend that you reach out to them directly.
